How to record side-by-side skype videos

We’re getting super practical and just a tad bit technical today, as I show you how to easily record side-by-side skype videos.
A side-by-side video is one where the screen is split in half, with you on one side and the person you’re chatting with on the other side.
This is a great feature to use for recording interviews. This could be you interviewing a client where they share their experience going through one of your programs or to interview a guest expert. You can use the content as a bonus for one of your programs or send it out as your weekly free content for your list.
Here are step-by-step instructions for recording side-by-side skype videos:
Step 1: You’ll be using skype, so if you don’t already have an account, you’ll want to create a free account.
Step 2: Skype doesn’t have the functionality to record a side-by-side video, so you’ll need another tool for this. I recommend a tool called SuperTinTin. They have a free option that allows you to record 5 minutes of video. Their full version, which allows you to record any length, is only $30 and I think it’s money well spent.
Step 3: Login to your account and enter the Skype ID for the person you are calling. This isn’t their email address, so you’ll want to get their Skype ID ahead of time. Simply enter it in the search field shown below.
Step 4: Click on the green “video call” button.
Step 5: To start recording the video, open SuperTinTin. A screen like this will open. At the bottom right of the screen, select the option “Side-by-Side” and then click the red button start and stop your video.
Simple steps to capturing good quality videos
A few days before recording your video, send the person you’re interviewing the questions you plan to ask. This way there won’t be any surprises and your interviewee will be prepared.
Email your interviewee simple instructions:
- Open skype and test to make sure it’s working correctly.
- Have a set of headphones.
- Make sure your audio and camera on your computer works.
- Be in a well lit and quiet room.
- Shut down all other applications on your computer.
- Turn off all external pinging or ringing noises, such as phones.
Of course, you’ll also want to follow the instructions above.
Now I’d love to hear from you.
Have you recorded video interviews? If so, I’d love to hear how you’ve used them in your business. If you haven’t yet used videos, I’d love to hear what ideas you have. And, as always, post your questions below so I can support you.
