Rethink The Marketing Plan For Your Health Coaching Business

marketing plan

You became a health coach because you want to share your knowledge and help as many people as possible.

To do that, you need a marketing plan for getting clients.

So you pay attention to what the experts are doing and try to follow that.

It makes sense.

Heck, if it works for them, it should work for you too, right?

Well, this is actually where you can get into trouble. Because, unfortunately, the marketing plan that works for one expert might not work for you.

You see, when you see someone succeed, you have to keep in mind that you don’t know how big their following is, how long they’ve (truly) been in business, or what kinds of connections they have.

Not only that, but you’re probably getting mixed messages.

There are so many ‘experts’ teaching a variety marketing strategies you should be doing.

You’ve seen the headlines… “So-and-so made 6-figures by doing this”, and “Get 20 new clients a month doing that”.

You’re not sure which strategies to implement, so you try a handful to see what works. (Good for you for getting into action!)

But before you know it, you’ve got a to-do list that’s a mile long, and you start to feel overwhelmed and like you’re not actually getting anything DONE.

Plus, the results haven’t been stellar (i.e. you’re not getting more than a trickle of clients coming in).

Boy can I relate! When I was a newer coach, I got on every marketing bandwagon I heard about.

I was collecting marketing tactics – with a folder full of different strategies from different experts – everything from giving local talks to networking, leading webinars, launching video series, using Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter (you name the platform, it was on the list) .

I was trying to piece together a marketing plan from everything I was hearing on the internet.

But this left me feeling drained, lost, confused, and without more money in my bank account.

If you resonated with any of this, I want you to know that you’re not alone. Many of our clients in The Health Coach Profit Lab join the program because they’ve gone through this exact scenario and they want an easier path towards getting clients.

There’s a better way. It involves rethinking your marketing.

If you follow my 3 BIG TIPS...you can create a marketing plan you ENJOY.

Here are the 3 ways to rethink your marketing plan

#1 Less marketing will get you MORE clients

I see a lot of new coaches attempting every marketing strategy in the book.

They’ve been told they have to do marketing tactic x, y, z… be on social media channels, blog every week, go to big networking events, send out postcards and flyers and business cards, create sales funnels on your website… the list goes on.

The idea is that by doing a lot of different things something will eventually work. But they’re throwing spaghetti at the wall to see what sticks.

The problem with doing so many different things to market your business is it isn’t sustainable. You’re working tirelessly every single day, filling all your free time hopping from task to task, but not seeing any results.

You’re splitting your time between multiple strategies, but you’re probably just scratching the surface with each strategy, so you’re not able to master any of them. You can’t get really good at any particular strategy, which makes each of the things you’re doing less effective.

And because nothing is really working, coaches usually feel like they should be doing EVEN more!

It’s a never ending, exhausting and vicious cycle.

The key thing you can do with your marketing plan to get the best results while spending less time marketing is to focus on ONE strategy at a time.

#2 Ditch passive marketing

A lot of the typical marketing strategies I see new coaches using are what I call ‘passive marketing’.

Things like leaving postcards and flyers in local businesses or snail mailing letters to physicians and other potential referral partners.

The problem with passive marketing is that it doesn’t usually result in many clients. I know because I tried these strategies when I was a coach and I only got 1 or 2 clients from them – ever!

If I’m totally honest here (which you know I always am), we tend to love these passive strategies because they’re fairly easy to implement.

The flip side is that they take up a lot of time and don’t get results. Too much work for very little reward. Yet another reason you may be feeling exhausted from your marketing.

Ready to breathe new life into your marketing plan so you can get more clients? Go ahead and take big fat marker and cross off the passive marketing tasks from your to-do list! Are you with me?

#3 Align your marketing plan with your personality

Do you thrive in big corporate networking settings? Or does this make you want to shrink into a corner?

Do you love communicating through writing a weekly blog? Or do you feel more confident speaking to a group?

I hear from so many coaches that are struggling trying marketing tactics that go directly against their personality and their natural strengths.

Why?

Because they feel like they HAVE to try these strategies that they’ve been told about, no matter how much they may hate doing it.

Forcing yourself into marketing that doesn’t feel good for you won’t last long. It will feel like a constant struggle.

I want you to experience a different reality. One where you’re honoring who you are and where your marketing is aligned with your personality. Say goodbye to the marketing strategies you you dread and that drain you.

Marketing your business shouldn’t feel impossible. There’s an easier way.

We’ve been programmed to think we have to DO IT ALL. We think the more we do, the better our chances of success (at least that’s what I used to think), but it’s actually the reverse.

You don’t have to do it all.

In fact, you SHOULDN’T do it all, because honestly, you can get MORE clients by doing LESS marketing.

Imagine actually enjoying promoting your business..

Imagine knowing exactly what to work on next. Having a plan, and being able to do it all in a reasonable amount of time each day.

Imagine seeing results directly from the work you’re doing!

Imagine filling your practice with 4 or 5 new clients every month.

This is what happens when you stop collecting marketing strategies, and instead start focusing on one or two proven tactics that are a great fit for you.

In The Health Coach Profit Lab, we focus on identifying one or two marketing strategies that work for you, then building a strategy and step-by-step marketing plan to make it happen.

I want to give you a sneak peak of what this is like, so…

Next week, I’m going to share the most effective marketing strategies are and how you can start implementing them in your marketing.

Now I’d love to hear from you
How would focusing on only one or two marketing strategies impact your life? What would you do with all the extra time you could save?
