Lost About How To Grow Your Business Online? Do This…
Growing your business is probably your number 1 priority as a health coach. A great way to grow your business is by offering your coaching services and programs online.
But figuring out HOW to grow your business online, whether you’re just venturing into the online space or you’re already well established, can be a daunting and confusing task.
The biggest question I get asked by health coaches is how they can find more clients and get more people into their online programs.
There’s so much information out there on what you need to do – it’s overwhelming! Often the best approach is to cut out the noise and keep it simple.
If you’re feeling a little lost about growing your business, then this is for you!
I’m taking it back to the basics today and sharing the 4 steps for getting more clients online and increasing your sales. While these are “basics”, sadly, most coaches aren’t seeing results because they’re missing one or more of these steps.
Whether you’re just starting out or you’ve been doing this for a while, trust me… these steps WORK.
Growing your business and getting more clients online starts with your list.
If you want to have an online business, building your list is the single most important marketing activity you can focus on.
The people who sign up for your mailing list are the people who have raised their hand to say ‘Yes! I like what you have to say and I want to hear more.’ These are the people that will turn into your loyal audience, raving fans, and paying clients.
How much money can you make from your list?
If your marketing efforts are focused on emailing your list, the size of your list directly reflects how much you can earn. The basic formula to determine how much your list is worth is:
List size x .02 x cost of program = income
The size of your list, x .02 (the average conversion rate) x what each of those people will pay you to be your client or buy your program equals your projected income. So for example, if your list has 500 people, and 2% of those people (10 people) purchase your program at $497, you can earn $4,970.
You can use this formula to anticipate the income you can expect from your launches and programs based on your current list size. You can also use this equation to set goals in terms of how much you want to grow your list over the next few months. You can set a weekly or monthly list building goal based on your income goals.
Don’t worry if the number is scary – list building doesn’t have to be intimidating. My upcoming “List Building Made Easy” program will give you all the answers you need!
Now that you have a list size goal in your head based on how much you want to earn, here are the 4 steps you need to take to start growing your list.
Step 1 – Create A Free Opt-In Gift
Having an Opt-in Gift is the fastest way to get people on your list. Create something really valuable and compelling for your audience, and give it away for free. Your audience can download the free gift by providing their email address.
When you create your free gift, be sure to make it targeted to what your ideal clients will find compelling. This will help you get the “right” people onto your list. You don’t want just anyone on your list. You want people who fit your ideal client profile, who are struggling with the things you focus on, and are likely to buy from you.
Here is a breakdown of what your gift should be, how to create it, what format it should be, and how to implement it quickly. There’s even a free template that you can use to set up your opt-in gift fast.
Step 2 – Create A Landing Page
A landing page is a special page where you promote only your free opt-in gift. People can enter their email address on this page in order to get access to your gift. You can use a service like LeadPages to quickly and easily create simple and effective landing pages (without technical skills).
What does your landing page need?
An enticing headline – Grab your readers’ attention right away by using a headline that addresses their main concern or pain point. What problem is your free gift solving? Be sure to use it in your headline to communicate the solution right away. Can’t think of a great headline? Try using the question your clients ask you most.
Compelling copy – Landing pages can be short or long form. For free gifts, I recommend keeping it short, simple and to the point. You don’t need to write
1000 words of sales copy to give something away for free. Use your copy to communicate the 3-5 problems your gift solves, or the 3-5 things they will
A form – Of course, you need a way to collect email addresses on your landing page. I recommend the form on your landing page collects first name and email address. The fewer the fields, the more likely people are to complete and submit the form. For your submit button, come up with a call-to-action that’s more appealing than the default ‘submit’. Try something like “Send Me My Guide!” or “Yes! Send Me My Free Cheat Sheet!”.
Step 3 – Promote Promote Promote
Once you have your free gift and landing page set-up, you need to start driving traffic to it to capture emails. Sending it to your existing audience won’t help, as this won’t grow your list at all.
There are plenty of ways to promote your gift and drive traffic to your landing page. One of my favorite ways to drive traffic is guest blogging.
Guest blogging is where you write a blog post that gets posted on someone else’s site.
I’ve often generate over 100 new subscribers to my list each time I publish a guest post. You can imagine that if you regularly published guest blog posts that you would have a nice flow of new subscribers coming in!
Step 4 – Follow Up Emails
Once someone has joined your list and read your free gift, you need to follow up with them to continue building a relationship and provide value to them. Follow up emails are the key to converting your audience into your clients.
You can create an automated email series in your email program to be triggered whenever someone downloads your free gift. Your email series should be a mix of more value, relationship building, and sales. You don’t want to send them a sales pitch right away, but you do want to keep enticing them to engage with you and your content. The best way to do this is to provide more information, more value, and more insight into how you can help them and what it’s like to work with you.
These 4 steps are the foundation for growing your business online. If you implement these steps the “right” way, you’ll see your list and revenue grow.
Now I’d love to hear from you!
