How to build your list WHILE marketing your program

Do you sometimes feel like you have two goals?  You want to build your list AND market a program?

Do you ever wonder if you can accomplish both of these things at the same time?

Last week, I received an email from a health coach asking if our Fall Cleanse & Detox Solutions will help him build his list.

The answer to this question is an interesting one, that relates to any program you offer, not just a cleanse or detox.

Regardless of what type of program you’re planning to offer, in today’s post, you’re going to learn how to build your list while marketing your program.

I’m also going to share how you can use the content from your programs or the pre-written content from our Fall Cleanse & Detox Solutions to build your list.

Start with something free

If you want to build your list, you always want to start with something free.

This is the basic rule of list building.  You offer something for free, and in exchange, people provide you with their name and email address.

Nowadays, most people won’t give you their email address unless there’s an enticing reason to do so.

Here’s how this works:

Step 1: You create something that’s free that your ideal clients desperately want. (We’ll get more into this a little later.)

Step 2:  You create a squeeze page where you promote your freebie. (This page is also called an opt-in page or landing page.)  This page always has a form where people enter their name and email address.

Step 3: You use a variety of strategies to get people to your squeeze page. (I’ll share more about this next week.)

Step 4: Once people land on your squeeze page and enter their email address, you send them an email with access to the freebie.

Your freebie can be delivered a number of different ways :

  • teleseminar
  • webinar
  • a mini program
  • free report or guide
  • video series
  • email series

What should your freebie be about?

Start with the end in mind. You want to build your list, but why?

You want to build your list so you can get more people into your program, right?

In order to make this happen, the content of your freebie should always relate to your program.

First, consider what results your program will help your participants receive.

Let’s say, for example, that your program focuses on weight loss as the main result. In this case, you’ll also want your freebie to focus on weight loss.

Taking that a step further, you will want your freebie to relate to the ways in which your program will help people with weight loss.

Here’s what I mean…

If your program helps your participants lose weight by removing common food sensitivities, you will want your freebie to share information about food sensitivities. In this case, you wouldn’t want your freebie to be about emotional eating and weight loss, because this isn’t the angle you’re taking with your program.

To illustrate this, here are examples of freebies you can offer if you’re promoting a cleanse or detox:

  • Teleseminar or Webinar entitled “Food Sensitivities & How They Cause Weight Loss Resistance”
  • Free Report entitled “Toxins & How They May Be Causing You to Hold Onto Unwanted Weight.”
  • Mini Program entitled “3 Day Mini Detox to Jumpstart Your Weight Loss”

Why this type of freebie works…

Reason #1: You’re offering something that’s enticing to your ideal clients. This means, you’re going to build a list of people who are most likely to be interested in your program.

Reason #2: When people opt-in and receive your freebie or attend your teleseminar, they will get to know you and learn that you are an expert that they want to learn more from. This means they be more likely to want to buy from you.

Reason #3: By using this approach, your freebie is going to educate your audience on the “why.”  For example, they might learn why and how food sensitivities impact weight.  This is probably something they don’t know much about.  Once they understand this, they will also come to understand why participating in your cleanse or detox will benefit them and they’ll be much more likely to want to participate in your program.

How you can re-purpose the pre-written content from our Fall Cleanse & Detox Solutions (or your program) to build your list.

With our Fall Cleanse & Detox you receive a 30-page Guidebook, Meal Plans & Recipes, plus additional materials such as Toxin Reduction Tips.

You can pull from this material to create your freebie.

Here are some examples of how you can do this:

  • Pull a handful of recipes from the Meal Plan & Recipes document and create a 3-Day Mini Detox or Cleanse. You can also pull content from the Guidebook about the benefits of detoxing to further educate your audience.
  • Pull from the Guidebook and the Toxin Reduction Tips to create a free report entitled “Toxins & How They May Be Causing You to Hold onto Unwanted Weight.” Note that this could also be an email series, video series, or teleseminar.
  • Pull content from the Guidebook about food intolerances/sensitivities and create a Teleseminar or Webinar entitled “Food Sensitivities & How They Cause Weight Loss Resistance.”

If you’re offering a different program that you’ve created, you will also have material you can pull from just like I described above.

Next week, I’m going to dive deeper on this topic and share how to get people to your squeeze page that promotes your freebie. I’ll also share a timeline that maps out when, during your launch, to market your freebie.
