8 ways to promote your free gift …
so you can build your list

Do you have a free gift on your website, or are you thinking about creating a free gift?

The purpose of your free gift is to build a list of ideal clients, and then to build “know, like, and trust” with your list, ultimately converting some of them to become paying clients.

Once you’ve created a free gift, you might be wondering what you can do to promote the gift and get more people to opt-in.

Today, I am going to share 8 easy ways to promote your free gift.

First, a reminder that when you are promoting your free gift, you’ll want to send people to a squeeze page  – rather than your home page. I covered this in last week’s blog post. If you missed it, go here to read Do You Need a Squeeze Page (if you want to build your list)?.

Now on to specific strategies you can use to promote your free gift.

1.  Promote sharing on your thank you page

Start by promoting the free gift to your list, if you have one. If you don’t yet have a list, promote to your friends and colleagues.

Then, use the thank you page people get to after they register for your free gift to ask them to share your gift.

Here’s an example of how we did this on one of our thank you pages.

2.    Use social media

Many of the people who follow you and who you connect with on social media don’t know about your free gift.  Don’t keep it a secret!

Post something casual and friendly on a monthly basis, letting people know about your free gift.  You can do this on your business page (if you have one) and in groups that you belong to that attract your ideal clients.

3.  Turn YouTube videos into a list building engine

If you have videos on YouTube, or plan to make videos in the future, be sure to include a plug for your free gift and a link to your squeeze page In the description of the videos.

4.  Make the most of guest blog posts

If you guest blog, you will want to include a plug for your free gift and a link to your squeeze page in your bio at the end of the blog post.

5.  Leverage speaking engagements

When speaking live, on a teleseminar, or on a radio show or podcast, share information about your free gift and the URL for your squeeze page.

6.    Utilize the signature of your email

Set-up your business email to include a default “P.S.” message that has a short plug for your free gift with a link to your squeeze page.

7.  Use the prime real estate on your business cards

Use the back of your business cards to promote your free gift. Once again, include a link to your squeeze page.

8.    Ask colleagues or affiliates to share your free gift

If you have colleagues or affiliates who are connected to people in your target market, ask them to share your free gift on social media. Make it easy for them by writing posts that they can easily copy and paste.
