3 refund policies you can copy
I love shopping at Athleta. Do you know the store? (They sell yoga and other sporty clothing, plus fun casual clothing.)
We’re lucky to have one of their stores in our local mall and it’s usually one of the first stops I make when I go clothes shopping.
One thing I love about Athleta is their “Give-it-a-workout” guarantee. If it doesn’t perform, you can return it for free. There’s nothing worse than buying a new expensive sports bra only to find out in the middle of yoga class that it’s uncomfortable or doesn’t fit right.
Knowing Athleta’s return policy, I purchase from them more freely. I figure, what do I have to lose? If I don’t love it, I’ll just bring it back.
The same is true of your audience when they’re thinking of signing up for a cleanse, detox, or other online program/product.
They may wonder, “what if this isn’t for me?”
You can set their mind at ease by offering a guarantee.
What type of refund policy should you have? It really depends on the offering and what feels right to you.
Here are 3 policies you can copy and use. Of course feel free to make edits and be sure to include your policy on the sales page for your program. (Note: these are designed for online group programs, not private coaching.)
Option #1: Satisfaction or “Happiness” Guarantee
With this option, you will give a refund if the participant goes through the whole program and isn’t happy with their results. This puts the responsibility on the participant to actively participate in the program.
I have held nothing back in creating this program for you. I want you to be blown away, and feel amazing after you complete this program. If you follow 95% of the program and aren’t thrilled with your results, simply email me your completed workbook explaining why you weren’t completely satisfied by the program and I will refund your purchase, no questions asked.
Option #2: Time-limited refund
With this option, you’re giving a refund for a short amount of time – this could be anywhere from 24 hours to 30 days, depending on the length of your program. The shorter your program, the less time you want to give them.
I have held nothing back in creating this program for you. I want you to be blown away, and feel amazing after you complete this program. You have 24 hours from the start date of the [insert name of program], to check out all the materials. If, after 24 hours, you find it’s not a good fit, email me at [insert your email] explaining why you weren’t completely satisfied by the program and I will refund your purchase.
Option #3: No refunds
This option is different from the other two, because it’s basically a “no refunds” policy. In this case, you’re asking people to make sure this is a good fit for them before they sign up.
I have held nothing back in creating this program for you. I want you to live a happier, more vibrant life so I’m giving you all the tools and support you need to start your path to a healthier lifestyle. Because I want you to experience the amazing results possible in this program, once the program materials have been sent out, there are no refunds. I have created this policy so that we are both accountable for your success. I am here to support you every step of the way! If you have any questions about the program, I want to make sure to answer them before you sign up. Please email me any questions at [insert your email] or call me at [insert your phone #], so we can make sure this is a good fit for you.
I encourage you to test out one of the policies and feel out what works for you.
Now I’d love to hear from you!
Do you currently have a refund policy? If so, please share below and let me know how it’s working for you. If you don’t yet have a refund policy, which of the above options feels like a good fit?
